Hi everybody,

This is my 2nd book review and it’s about Wonder written by R.J Palacio. I am going to be telling you about some of the major events that happened in Wonder and my opinion of the book.

Have you read Wonder?

How would you like to have a face that everybody screams, runs away or teases about because that is the life of August. Wonder is an inspiring story about a boy called August (Auggie) who has a “deformed” face. It is a book about hope, courage never giving up and is an inspirational story.

He lives with his mum, dad and his sister Via (Oliver) and not to forget Daisy (the dog). He also has never gone to school before!

August has formed new friendships and made new enemy’s he has to go through lots of horrifying things until everybody accepts him.

Some brave carrying people have stood up to all the bullies and helped Auggie through his emotional ride. They definitely have put meaning into this saying: When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind. – By: Dr Wayne W. Dyer

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore!!!

Hi everybody,

Today and yesterday the grade 5s watched The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The movie had NO dialog (speech).

Here is my recount of the movie:

Mr. Morris Lessmore was writing, when a wind/tornado came. Everything was lifted up into the air and spun around and then got dropped, everything was black and white after that. Then Mr. Morris Lessmore walked along a path and a lady with an alphabet skirt, was flying in the air with books tied onto a string in her hand. Then one of the books jumped down and made everything colourful. Inside the book was a picture of Humpty dumpty and he was telling him to follow, so he did. At the end of the path he came to a grand library, and then went inside to follow the Humpty dumpty book. He walked down a long corridor and heard the Humpty dumpty book playing the piano, so he went in and started dancing to the music with the books. He woke up on a giant book. He got up, and gave the books alphabet cereal and then put there “jackets” on. Then he saw an old book that he had to fix. He then gave out books to the public which gave them colour. He finished writing his book about his life. He was an old man now so the books made him young and took up into the sky where he gave a little girl his book he wrote, so that she can look after the books.

These are what I thought were the messages:

  • Books give you colour and meaning
  • Never give up (on life)
  • Books can change your life
  • Expressions, lights and colour can tell the mood

These techniques helped me think of messages:

–         Colour

–         Using ideas from other films

–         Expressions

–         Light/Dark

–         Body language

–         Music

Here is one of the things that I noticed:

When it is dark, gloomy and dull the mood, peoples expression and body language is sad. But when it is happy it is colourful, bright and the music was fast and happy, and the peoples expression and body language is happy.

The Comical Court Jester

Hi everybody,

On the exciting last day of school the grade 5s watched the Court Jester. The Court Jester was a 1955 film with colour which was a very rare and expensive effect to use. I have been asked to review the movie the Court Jester. The Court Jester was filmed in Palos Verdes, California, USA, directed by Melvin Frank and Norman Panama and starred Danny Kaye, Glynis John and Basil Rathbone.

Hawkins is performing to the king.

My favourite character has to be Hawkins because of his personality and how he doesn’t remember what the rhyme is. I also think it’s funny how lots of bad things keep happening to him. Here is the cast list.

I think there are 2 very clever quotes from the Court Jester. But my favourite is (Part 1): I’ve got it! I’ve got it! The pellet with the poison in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice with the palace has the brew that is true! Right? (the rest of the conversation) Part 2: The pellet with the poison the flagon with the dragon; the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true. I also thought that this quote was clever Get it, Got it, Good!

Brilliant Boy overboard Book Reveiw!

Hi everyone,

This is my first  book review on the Brilliant Boy overboard. I wrote this book review on our class novel  that our teacher Miss C read  to us in term 1, and in my opinion I think its one of my favourite books.

Boy overboard heading 2

WOW! Boy overboard was a gripping story. I didn’t want to stop reading. It is about courage, hope, family, separation, and is an eye opening story. It is a great read.

In Boy overboard Jamal and Bibi have a dream. They have to escape the government because of their parent’s secret. But they will encounter pirates, assassins, a treacherous sea journey and a horrible government on their way to freedom.  There will be ups and downs. They need to stick together. Along the way they discover the important values of being a family.

Morris Gleitzman includes lots of different moods, characteristics and descriptive words. My favourite character is Bibi because of her great attitude. She always expresses her opinion boldly. If they don’t agree she insults them with camel related insults.

In my opinion it’s a wonderful read that combines action, drama, hope and much more. I don’t know how you could ever put the book down.
